Cemile Kavountzis was born in Manhattan and raised in Teaneck, New Jersey. She attended Boston University and wrote an award-winning column for MTV.com about Boston’s music scene. Following graduation, she worked for Random House, before going to Vienna, Austria, on a Fulbright grant. While there, she wrote for Austria Today covering music, art, and culture.
Since 2001, she has been living in the East Village and working as freelance writer and copy editor for national magazines. Her work has appeared in Entertainment Weekly, Interview, Maxim, The Nest, and flavorpill.com.
